South girls turn item girls for Bollywood

Leading ladies from the South are not just busy romancing the Bollywood men, but in a new trend, mana Tollywood girls are becoming the hottest picks for Hindi item numbers too. First, Shriya Saran, sizzled on the big screen in Chhamiya No. 1 from Zila Ghaziabad and then came Priyamani, who is currently making waves for shaking a leg with Shah Rukh Khan in One, Two, Three, Four in Chennai Express. The latest Southern siren to join the Bollywood item song bandwagon is Charmme Kaur. The lady will be seen grooving with Shahid Kapoor in his forthcoming action-entertainer Rambo Rajkumar, directed by Prabhudheva.

In fact, Charmme seems to have become quite a popular choice for item numbers down South too. While she sizzled with Nagarjuna as Sakku Bai in Dhamarukam, and with Ram Charan in the track, Nellorae from Naayak Charmme is now excited to be upping the oomph quotient on the Bollywood scene. The actress, who has already enjoyed a B-town stint with the Amitabh-starrer, Bbuddah... Hoga Terra Baap, and the Sanjay Dutt-starrer Zila Ghaziabad, says, "Prabhudheva's Rambo Rajkumar will be my third Bollywood outing.

I worked with him in films like Pournami, Michael Madana Kamaraju... We are very good friends now and I share a great rapport with him. So, when I got a call from Prabudheva asking me to do an item number with Shahid Kapoor, I jumped at the offer. Shahid is a fantastic actor and I'm excited to be working with him," says Charmme, who is currently shooting for this special number. Meanwhile, national award-winning actress Priyamani is still basking in the buzz of her latest item number with Bollywood's baadshah.

The actress, who made her Hindi debut with Raavan and later did RGV's Rakta Charitra II, is thrilled to be a part of the catchy number, choreographed by Raju Sundaram in Rohit Shetty's Chennai Express. "Apparently, Rohit Shetty saw some of my South songs on YouTube and was very impressed with my performance and my dance moves.

He called me one day and offered me this special song in the SRK movie. And I was happy to say yes." Considering the South industry is becoming the toast of Bollywood, what with everyone, from our actors and directors to our movies, making a mark there, this trend doesn't come as a surprise. Charmme adds, "It is not only our South actresses making an impact there, even our technicians, filmmakers and producers are doing really well in the Hindi film industry — that's a good sign."

Echoing a similar thought, Priyamani says it's time to celebrate all things South. "It's good to see actors from here doing really well in Bollywood. After working so hard all these years in films here, it's a great experience stepping into new terrains. Moreover, working with SRK was something else!" she exclaims.
